RIP Ford F150e (long live the F150)

True, in some states. But in my state, I get to pay an extra $230 a year for my registration of an EV.

Exactly. As far as I'm concerned, my EV is fundamentally coal-fired, which suits me fine...

Charging on the road requires more planning/forethought than ICE cars. If you're on the road in one of the less populus parts of the country, chargers get hard to find - not impossible, but it takes effort and can be a stresser. Depreciation on an EV is generally higher than a comparable ICE...

Fair enough. Just making a point that I'm at least capable of doing first grade math. And if someone is flat out saying out 'EV's aren't viable' and offering no basis, I'm one person that's not swayed.

Yes! And I'm not the guy trying to convince anyone that an EV has a lower total cost compared to ICE vehicles. Energy costs will probably be lower, but other costs (mainly depreciation) are likely to be higher.

You of course are welcome to hold those opinions, but you've offered nothing concrete to sway mine. Last year, 1.1 million people bought Tesla's Model Y, making it the best selling car in the world. (The best-selling car, let alone the best selling EV). I guess you'd argue all these people are...

What do you mean by 'not viable'? Just curious about the basis for your opinions...

Putting the cart before the horse…..Three Phase power question???????

Yes - any VFD manual I've seen teaches NOT to use any switch between the VFD and motor.

Putting the cart before the horse…..Three Phase power question???????

If I understand the power tapping concern it's that slamming your machine from forward to reverse can damage it. From what I've seen, this 'reversing', when done at the motor is super smooth and not stressful. 3-phase motors can be switched from 'forward' to reverse' just by swapping two of...

Putting the cart before the horse…..Three Phase power question???????

When I first got my vertical mill, I built a rotary phase converter for it. It was fine and, at the time, the least expensive way to go. I long ago ditched the RPC and switched to VFD (actually two VFDs - one for the feed motor and one for the spindle). Hell - I've put VFDs on my belt...

    must-have workshop features

When I first built our house and shop (30 years ago) my main shop use was woodworking. It was fine because that was about all I did there. Over the years, I'm doing a lot less woodworking, and most of the shop is now metalworking, electronics, or other random things, none of which create...

    Kubota or other tractor recommendations

A tractor with a 'pin-on' FEL can be converted to SSQA - level of effort and desirability depending on your abilities and state of mind. What's the budget?

    Do I really need ?

Inverter generators have a few advantages: They can provide 60 Hz power regardless of the engine speed as opposed to 'conventional' AC generators where the engine must run at a constant speed (typically 3600 RPM for small portables). Since the inverter generator engine can slow itself down...

PTO drive for a Miller Bobcat welder?

Again, use the 960 PTO setting and all you'd need is a 11.25 on the PTO (with your 3" on the generator).

PTO drive for a Miller Bobcat welder?

^right. And HP remains constant (exclusive of frictional loss).
