You are right, and an amazing person! There was no spring and ball in that 4wd hole. I was thinking it was from the PTO gear shift arm, which doesn't have a bolt hole access. But I hope that one is still in place. Thank you.

Well I think this is the most likely. I will pull it all back apart to confirm. It did drop when I pulled the PTO selector shaft out to replace it.

It looks like it might be a pressure relief thing. But I can't figure out where it would go. I don't think it is internal to the transmission.

Well I screwed up and had to replace the PTO selection gear shaft in the transmission on my bx2380. What a job. Split the tractor and took apart the transmission. While I had it all apart, I was digging for the metal chunks and found a small spring and ball in the bottom. Best I could think of...
