Also rough running now sorted, filters didn't cure it so went a couple of steps further, cleaned the tank (washing up liquid and water and a length of chain, then lots of rinsing and drying), also changed the fuel lines and while I was there the fuel pump - all sounds much better now.

So in case it helps anyone else I just drained the fluid by undoing the solid pipe circled above and letting air in by loosening the filter. Just under 3L came out so all seems to have drained fine. Looks like there is a strainer behind that plate but it didn't want to some out and I didn't want...
