It's your choice as always, but I wouldn't bother replacing the vent line (3/16" or whatever it is). Just snip it off leaving a few inches on the filter base and a few on the return line tee. Then find a welding rod butt, machine screw, nail, or anything to fill the hose stubs and plug them...

There was a time when tractor cabs had a simple mechanical temperature control switch. You could decide if it worked or not in thirty seconds, find a replacement if needed at any parts house. Now we have "controllers" that can't be tested other than by replacement, a half mile of wires, servo...

You might begin with the drive shaft shield. The shield tubing in contact with the rotating shaft has been known to cause strange squeaks and squeals.

And the cylinder is the source of Snap, Krackle, and Pop? It's got nothing to do with rusty tie rod ends, ball joints, or anything with the spindle units?

What's a steering rack? Most similar tractors would have a steering cylinder, a steering control valve (related shafts, U joints, ETC to operate it), and maybe a steering pump. Where's the rack?

No authority on common rails systems but I would start with a service manual and investigate the throttle position sensor values and the related circuit. The computer could be getting a signal that the throttle is indeed wide open and reacts accordingly. I would locate the sensor, unplug it and...

I think most of us would start with pedal free play. If the clutch is indeed slipping, there probably is none. A slipping clutch doesn't necessarily produce a whine, but who knows? (If this link works) check and adjust length of rod 080 until you have an inch or so of free play on the pedal...

There should be no need to replace anything else if the system is properly flushed and dried.

A/C projects are not always a "do it once" type of thing, even for those with experience at it. You (apparently) have a compressor problem, probably more, and don't yet know the extent of it all. In my experience pressure gauges don't read temperature. Ambient or otherwise. His gauges looked (to me anyway) to both read approximately 84 PSI. My experience tells me that's NOT low on charge. 70 to 80 PSI static pressure would about right in any system this time of year. He has problems...

I guess I must be stupid, but could you explain a bit more about what his pressure readings indicate? How exactly does ambient show up on pressure gauges?
