    Alternator Dissassembly, Bearings - L3940

Lol sorry for the confusion- yeah the tnuts hold that sheet of uhmw to the bench top. It's better conceptually than functionally, but I lazed out and just fastened it down quickly to less than ideal result. I'll get more pics when I put the alternator back together again; the management of the...

    Alternator Dissassembly, Bearings - L3940

Here is a picture of the rotor/bearings. I put the bearing retainer back on the taped slip rings to show that the slip ring od is smaller than the shaft od: Here's a pic of the alternator PN: The required bearing sizes are 35x15x11 and 32x15x11. Still working on best sources; plenty of...

    Alternator Dissassembly, Bearings - L3940

I taped the slip rings (thanks AI!) and pulled the bearing off over the slip rings once I borrowed a small enough puller. Have to go to work; more pics later. The rotor pressed out of the rear housing easily and the bearing remained on the shaft. Appreciate the interest; y'all rule!

Doh! I have a copy of that; tbh it didn't even OCCUR to me to look for alternator disassembly instructions there. Thanks!

    Alternator Dissassembly, Bearings - L3940

Hello friends, The bearings of the alternator of my L3940 (2013, ~700hr, HST) became prone to squealing on cold starts, so I've removed the alternator from the tractor and partially disassembled it. My plan would be to install new bearings after I measure and order them. The nose bearing should...

How long did it take you to break the plastic grille?

I'm too smart for that- I made sure and buy a used tractor with a pre-broken grille 😂

    Radiator Recovery Tank leaks

FWIW (too late for OP, sorry...) the surface energy of some plastics can be improved by brief (brief!) application of a propane torch. IIRC I first read of this on the West Systems website; those guys are glue geeks.

Initial purchase list vs "wish list"

I live in the woods, and for what it's worth my grapple is far more useful to me than my pallet forks. Also love the steering wheel spinner; I bought my tractor used, and the spinner was seized up so I replaced it immediately.

    Gloves

Hexarmor are great- I really like these (have a set I've used for 3 years just starting to wear out): https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07FSV9R4R Those have a layer of steel in them, which makes them amazing for fire-adjacent work. Nothing like a welding glove, but great protection when using...

    Grapple width for LX4020, 56" or 66"?

L3940/66" grapple. The only time I wish it was wider is when I'm using it as a stick plow. Pretty rare, really, so for me the width is good. I think it probably depends on your use cases whether or not the wider one would make a difference.

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

Wood, as per usual. The sun was out yesterday (been a minute) so I took a break from work to move and stack some splits... Low 20s (*F) so pretty easy to stay warm so long as I was moving; once the tractor was warm I ran it at a higher RPM than I would in warm weather. It's my first winter...

    Husqvarna 550xp mark 2 or Stihl ms261

My 261c is about 4 years old now; the only issue was a worn-out plug making it difficult to start/keep running. It's usually oily on the bottom, but no fuel leaks. Starts 3rd or 4th pull, every time, regardless of temperature. Would buy again. Agree on PPE; I have Stihl chaps and a Tasco...

L4060 3rd function. Which kit do you recommend?

I went w the Long setup for my 3940; no complaints, parts are good quality* and install straightforward. *The socket head cap screws used to hold the solenoid valve body to the bracket are lame and rusted immediately.

Loader bucket for extra ballast, hauling wood etc.

Hey, FWIW I regularly carry my bucket with my grapple when I go someplace on the property where I'd like both available. Ballast box on the back, though often I consider a (weighted) carryall.
