What exactly is a soft plug-is it the same as a freeze plug?

Also, what is a soft plug and where can I get one? Is it very specific or are they quite commonly sized?

Yes, the waterneck actually had been broken and repaired when I bought it but the weld didn't hold and it finally broke all the way off. It was a bear to put the new one on but I finally got it. Thanks guys.

I replaced the nipple/filler plate where the coolant enters the engine from the radiator and now when I pour coolant/water into the radiator to fill it, it runs right out the back of the engine through this large hole that is about 1-1.5 inches in diameter. What does this mean?
