I fueled up my tractor and began mowing. After about 15 minutes it began losing power and exhausting a small amount of white smoke. I suspected a lack of fuel and replaced both fuel filters. Began mowing again, same results so I loosened the fuel cap to see if the vent was plugged, nope...

Back to report. I rebuilt the steering cylinder and still had hard steering so I replaced the steering controller and found out it was the problem. It turns out that I damaged the steering controller when I got the hoses mixed up. I've got to be more careful. Found an exact replacement...

Thanks Wolfman. That also explains the progressive nature of the hard steering. I'll try the cylinder first.

The hoses are correct on the other end. Their lengths are considerably different so I couldn't mix them up. Thank goodness. Found nothing about manual steering. I'm really leaning toward a damaged steering controller.

I replaced all four. Did initially get them wrong, but pulled the steering controller to reveal the port assignments T,P,R & L. Could hooking them up wrong damage the controller? Didn't run it very long. The part that bothers me is the uneven feel in the controller when turning the wheel...

I thought about something getting in the lines also. I had the hoses made at my local dealer. I bought a new feed hose that was factory made, installed it and got the same results so I'm pretty sure the feed is good, just don't know about the pressure.
