Well I am getting closer. I had one of these studs strip and a few other difficulties. But I can't seem to find these studs on the parts diagrams? They hold a cast bracket that isn't on the diagrams either. Am I missing something?

No, but that sounds like something I might do. The previous owner had it apart and did not seal the case. It was leaking ALOT when just sitting. So I took it apart and sealed it correctly.

Definitely something with the differential...the tires don't spin opposite when i jacked it up and I can feel/hear some grinding. Also have metal shavings in the filter screen. :(

Its a BX23MLB serial 60774. I have the shop manual and have tore it down to replace a side axle seal in the past. Hopefully I don't need to go that far again?

They do not spin in 4wd either. Tire pressure is good.

I jacked up the rear tires and they do not move when the foot pedal is depressed in 2wd.

I have a 1st gen BX23. While mowing with a 3pt mower, the forward movement quit. It will go reverse in 2wd and forward in 4wd. But NOT forward in 2wd. Linkage looks good as far as I can tell. I've had the tractor about 4 years and am very familiar with shifting, etc. Any thoughts to the...
