The more the revs or higher the revs, the louder the whine. Yes they need enough revs to make them work properly.

Nothing in either the engine or transmission filters, both pretty clean. I cut them open on the band saw. Hopefully it's just a normal 41 year old whine.

Thanks mate. Ive been around various plant, tractors, forklifts all my days. I guess geared and vario transmissions both have there place. Planning on running grass cutting equipment off this so vario transmission for me

IT wasn't Kubota branded no. It was a good quality alternative. The filters that I replaced were Kubota genuine filters, I can't be sure of the oil that I drained. It didn't look terrible to be honest, and nothing bad came out both the strainer plugs.
