UPDATE: I bought a new sending unit from Messicks and dropped the tank and installed it yesterday. The job took about 2 or 3 hours and the fuel gauge is reading again. Thanks for helping. I really appreciate it!

I really had not tried to pull them off before I posted the queston. But I tried pulling straight up and they pulled off by just grabbing and tugging upwards. I think these may have been removed befre I bought the machine. They were tight, but not impossible to release. Thank you!

I'll try using a hair dryer first before trying my heat gun.
