Does anyone know where I can purchase an alternator and voltage regulator for my zl1500? I have been to kabota and to a lot of websites no one has one. The problem is the connector does not match. Mine has 4 pins and all the ones I have seen have three. Is there away to get a new connector or converstion kit. tied of jump starting it.

If you can't locate one, you can always have it rebuilt. You can either locate an armature place that rebuilds them, or check with the local auto parts store. They usually have a service they use to rebuild alternators. Might take a couple weeks to get it back. Armature place should be able to locate a new one for you also, if you want to go that route. :)

Four pins is odd, tach is electronic, maybe? No after looking at your photo.
Any decent rebuilder can repair it.
Try a jobber auto parts supply. I managed to cross my alternator number from the tag. But its also three pin connector.

Would it be possible to retrofit another one in it's place? Or is there no room to do it ?

Much like the ones that have been done on old B7100's that did not have an alternator - but rather the dynamo that has quit.

I just got done rebuilding my wiring harness covering and I too have a 4 pin alternator, however one of the right pins is not used I cannot remember if its upper or lower looking at the backside of the alternator, I am very new to the L 1500 world (2 weeks) but I do believe and L 175 alternator would be the same? Look at your wires on your actual plug I think you have two whites with tracer colors and then two ground wires connected to one pin. Hope this helps.

Here are some pics of mine, and the label
(why don't people invest in masking tape before they slather paint on everything?)
cleaned up as best as possible.

According to my parts books, the number for the
L1500 / Z750 is 15221-6401-2 and
L175 / Z750A is 15221-64012

Again a newbie speaking but seem to me, Same Thing,
Go to KUBOTA tell them you need an alternator for a L175?

Comments from the long timers?

NIPONDENSO is huge, makes almost everything electrical for Japanese motorcycles,
should not be hard to match-up / find.
