Will 3rd Function on L3800 Operate an Auger?

Can I use the W.R. Long 3rd function kit on my L3800 to operate an auger - something small like the Land Pride SA20? It would just be for a few holes here and there, not to start a fencing company or anything like that. Not sure if there is enough flow?
Thanks, Wally

It's not a third function flow issue as much as it is a tractor flow issue.
That PH digger wants 10+ GPM and you tractor only puts out 6.3 for the loader / third function.
If it does spin it up, it's not going to have much power.

I was wondering the same thing recently. I have a MX5200 and the flow is rated at 9.5 GPM. It's strange that they would show the SA20 auger as 'Kubota Matched' when it really isn't based on hydraulic flow rate. I suppose the bigger M series tractors might do OK but it seems like anything smaller than that isn't really a good match.

I ran a SA-20 on my MX5800 and it did a really good job but you have to get the low flow model they come in 3 motor models low, medium and high flow. I don't know how well it would have run on a B or L model tractor.
I was running off the 3rd function without any issues. It was nice to be able to reverse the bit when needed.

Apparently, they've reduced the minimum flow to 6 gpm. On the Landpride site, the SA20 is listed twice. On one it shows 10-30 gpm. On the other it shows 6-30.

Ahh! I learned something new. I was always jealous of the skid steer crowd and the hydraulic augers, so this is great to know that there is a low flow version that would work on a MX. The 3-point PTO powered auger is adequate but a hydraulic unit hanging off of the bucket would be so much better.

Typically the issue with using 3rd function controls for a hydraulic motor is that some 3rd function valve kits are not rated for constant use. So if you need to be turning the auger for any length of time, the solenoid and or the control switch may get fried.

Check with the kit manual to be sure.

B2650, LP SA-20 medium flow motor, augered all holes up to gearbox. Used garden hoe to pull dirt piles away from auger before pulling it.

Operating tips:
Use float, down pressure can lift front axle, tractor will pivot to one side or other. Then you have to pull auger, reposition and finish auguring.

Tree root -Tractor starts rocking, release float, wait to see if rocking stops.

Dry soil, adding small amounts of water makes a thick mud that will stick to auger resulting in a cleaner hole.

Auger storage: had several issues reconnecting to FEL here's my solution
