Greetings,

What size rotary mower can my tractor handle? I'd like to go at least 5 foot, but would consider a 6 foot if it will work.

Thanks,

Consult your owners manual! The given spec will be 42" but 48" will cover your tracks. I would also highly recommend a slip clutch instead a shear bolt PTO shaft.

The BX series has a hydraulic PTO clutch with little or no modulation.

Pat,

If you have shear bolt, do you engage low engine speed like the MMM? I am trying to find a decent used 48" and none so far have had the slip clutch or actually been in a food condition for the price.

I think the BX2360 manual says the limit is 42 inches and 300 pounds.

You could add the slip clutch or replace the shaft complete. Slip clutch at TSC $179.00 or complete front to back $299.00

On Woods as new on the lot the unit would be $158.00 more compared to shear bolt.

Your engagement speed be just enough not to stall the unit, but no matter what you still get a bang! No modulation from your hydraulic PTO clutch.

What they said, 48" is about it, I use a LP RCR1548 and that's all I would run. LP, Woods and King Kutter all make cutters designed for the 3PH geometry of the SCUTs.

Thanks, will keep looking and if I get one without at least it is easy to add...only money but probably well spent over damaging the tractor.

What determines the maximum size? Weight, tractor HP, rear PTO HP, etc.
Every tractor manufacturer has a chart on what they consider is proper or recommended size implements.

Usually you take in account tractor hp or PTO hp. The width of the tractor or track. Then you have to look at the manufacturer of implement recommended hp minimum and maximum.

Wow our ball club uses a 60" behind a bx 2350 I guess they're working it pretty hard!
There's probably adequate horsepower, depending on what is being mowed, but a 5 ft. cutter is pretty large and heavy for a BX. Operating on smooth, level ground would likely work, but I would think it could get kind of adventurous on slopes and rough ground.

Good morning,

To update everybody, I ordered a Woods RC4 48" with slip clutch. Unfortunately they don't have an orange one in stock and it's going to be two week to get one. Thanks to all for the advice. I'll let you know how it works once I get it.

Regards,

I think you will be pleased, it is essentially what we use and it works great.
