Under the title "No Good Deed Goes Unpunished"

I was snow blowing my the end of my neighbors driveway...at the street where the street plow banking is and all of the sudden I stalled. Re started engine, backed up and eased into it again and found the blower not working.

It's not the shear pins in the auger. Is there shear pins on the fan, or on the driveshaft? It's a 5450 (I think) front mount blower on my BX2370.

I couldn't look at it then as I was already late for work, so I just put it away to be dealt with later.

First thing I would do is unhook it - then engage the pto - make sure it is "normal"

Someone will chime in here in a bit who know about that model snowblower.

Is this running off the MM pto?

Do you have the correct shear bolts? If is the same as the bx2750d front blower, and I think it is, the next weak point is inside the worm gear box. There is a woodruff key, a roll pin and finally the brass worm gear itself.

My Honda blower which is similar has a roll pin in the drive sprocket for the chain which I broke, so you might check there

I made "one more pass" doing the driveway last night.

At the time was thinking - this is when shit breaks....sure enough....just an impellor shearbolt....Thank God.

On my BX2750D blower - there are two auger shear bolts that are silver (grade 2 or 5?) and one on the impellor (fan) that is gold colored (grade 8?).

There are several threads on shear bolts.

I don't blow through many - maybe 2 or 3 per season - so I suck it up and get them OEM @ $3 each. Some use other options, or make their own - which is cool.

Take bolt to local tractor supply and buy the green bolts to use as shear pins. You can buy them buy the pound. Probably same grade if not looking identical to green shear pins i use on the tiller
