He has a different brand tractor with a 15hp diesel.

We ripped the engine apart due to non start and low compression.

Rings were junk, he is being told $150.00 per cylinder for rings. Is this typical, or is he getting screwed?

Is that for a ring job or just the rings? Seems high to me compared to what Kubota rings cost. What brand tractor,Rolls-Royce? :D

Its a Satoh with a Mitsubishi KE70. And that is for just the rings, we can do all the labor ourselves. Total cost for rings, bearings, and head gasket was just about 500.00, seems impossible to me.

Hoping so, we are considering measuring the pistons and cylinders and trying to find rings that we think will do instead. Everything inside this engine looks perfect except the rings are practically missing they are so worn. The cylinders look and measure great and just needed a small carbon ring cut off them, don't really need to even hone them.

Just looking for parts advice that won't cost him a fortune for what should be a small cheap part.

Here is a supplier with some Satoh Mitsubishi parts including rings, Maybe your model is shown, Prices here seem reasonable.

Thanks, I had found those since we started this search. Only 1 had the rings and it was the same $150.00 per cylinder + Shipping.
He is going to take a piston and the old rings to a local engine shop and see if they can recommend or manufacture something for him. Otherwise its $300.00 for just the rings for this rebuild. Yikes.

A little late getting back to this one but my brother did get the part and while I was in Maine this weekend we put it together. Took about 8 bleedings of the lines before it would fire but after that it started at first turn of the key. Hooked up the tiller and turned about 1000 square feet of sod into topsoil in no time. He says it never had power like this before. Thanks for the help. :D
