Very true. Years ago I was the mechanical designer, prototype machinist, & draftsman on a sub-miniature 2 axis fiber optic gyro for a french company. After testing, they bought the rights to the product, and we had to provide complete documentation of every phase of the build, including blueprints. We had built everything to US dimensions, and they were baffled- they just could not wrap their heads around our dimensions. After they threatened to cancel the purchase, we spent about a day converting everything to metric. They were tickled pink. It was a simple conversion to us, but apparently not for them.Go to Europe and see how many people can tell you how many millimeters are in an inch.
Because I was raised with it, I prefer inch measurement over metric for most things, but I work with what the job requires. For some things metric works better, for others inches.
