"Shutoff plunger" probably not the right term, but whatever it's called it's just hanging out of the dash. It works fine, but I'd like to get it back where it belongs, and don't know the procedure, so I could use some guidance. Can't find anything covering it in the Workshop Manual. Standing by.

Re: Tightening B7400 shutoff plunger

Decompression release maybe? It's cable operated and attaches to the injection pump. Red knob right?

If it's decompression release it has a wire in a sheath going to the front of the valve cover. Wake up Flip!!:D:D

I have one on both tractors but I've never used either. I goofed, again sorry for the lack of thought power.

There really isn't any adjustment to it.
You'll need to look at the linkage as it sounds like one of the bends has stretched out, thus making the linkage long.

It looks like it is just a steel rod going through the dash and then a knob installed onto the rod. So your description of “just hanging out of the dash” seems correct. I would assume that there would have been some embellisher in the dash hole but don’t know for sure what Kubota did.

Post a picture and you may get more information on it.

Yeah, it's a steel rod with a bend in it, just like in Wolfman's illustration, except that the illustration shows what appears to be the retaining nut I was expecting to find once I figured out how to get to it. No such luck! Traced the rod as far forward as I could; nothing there.

Is the nut a locknut to keep the knob tight?

The only reason for the locknut is to lock the STOP on the knob, in the proper position. ;)

So there's no provision for taking up the extra space in the hole through the dash where the end of the rod comes through, like a rubber grommet, maybe?
I don't see one OEM, but that's not to say you couldn't add one if it's bugging you. ;)

I think you can find an assortment of the rubber bushings you're looking for at any automotive store like NAPA, OReillys. You get several sizes in a package.
