Can you be more specific for which machine, engine / transmission?

I assume you are talking about Farm Oyl Synthetic CD 50 - Transmission Oil?

Any API designation chart will simplify that.

I have a Kubota M5700HD (5 cyl) tractor that calls for 15w40 (C1-4/SL) crankcase and a Kubota Zero turn ZD25 (3 cyl) for the same oil in the crankcase as the tractor
When these were manufactured (2002), I didn't know about Synthetic oil.

I use ROTELLA T6 5w-40. It is BY FAR the best oil sold at wallymart. (I even use it in my motorcycle)

Do not forget that the FIRST number is viscosity when cold while the SECOND number is the viscosity at operating temperature. Hence, it is the SECOND number which must match your engine-specification.

The 5w (COLD number) simply means it will flow better when cold. It DOES NOT mean it is 5-weight oil when it is cold.

A dino oil (NON-synthetic) simply cannot cover a large span of viscosities without adding a lot of viscosity-enhancers. (viscosity-enhancers break down as the oil is used ending up with a single-grade oil)

On the other hand, quality synthetic oil WILL NOT break down with use and will maintain its wide operating-range.
