In the process of building a stump grinder for my L3901. Using this first post as a test for uploading images. If I have it figured out and it works, you will see the drawing for the concept I have come up with. It will have an extending boom with hydraulic cylinders to lock it in place. Basically starting with the cutting head and working my way back to the tractor. More to come.

This is going to be interesting to see what you do. I have a homemade one as well that was first built for using on the 3 pth of a MF 1655.I then made it fit and work on a MF GC 2300 on the snowblowers quick hitch . Of course I now have it set up to work on the front quick hitch of my Kubota BX. So I'am really interested to see what you do. I have some pics of it when it was first for a cat 0 3pth then when I made it fit onto the front of the Massey. Sorry no pics of it on the Kubota. BTW not sure what the angle gear box came from.

Had the tooth blade water jetted out of 1/2" plate along with the holes for the teeth (Greenteeth 700 series). I'm going to be driving this directly off of the output shaft on the right angle drive, so I machined the bore for the coupler so it was a slight press fit. Welded the coupler in place on my small welding positioner using flux core.

The tapped holes you see are for being able to use a puller to remove it off the output shaft. (Just in case)

Holy crap, that almost looks like it was braised in an oven or something. I don't think I've seen a weld as nice that, and I've seen some welds.

Working on the hydraulic motor to right angle drive adapter and will post pictures tomorrow.

Both the right angle drive and the hydraulic motor have conventional 1-3/8" x 6 spline shafts, so I'm using a 5" couple to tie them together. The end plates were water jetted out of 1/2" plate and the housing is 4" square tube x 5/16 wall. Some milling for bolt clearance before welding and then lathe work for pump and drive fit up plus facing the surfaces.

Good time to check for fit between drive and cutting wheel. So far, so good.

Working on the inner boom. Material is 4x3x3/8 rectangular tube. The tube will be sliding in and out of a 5x4x3/16 rectangular tube so I welded on 1/4" strips on all sides to take up the slack. Welded it in sequence on all four sides to prevent warping, which turned out well.

After welding, I determined where the hole should be for the extender cylinder and drilled and counterbored for the the pin. Machined the pin out of 3/4" 4140 and grooved the ends for retaining clips.

Very tight clearance for the return hydraulic fitting on the boom cylinder. Decided to custom make a fitting to accept some 3/8" hydraulic tube. Used the plug to rob the dimensions off of and turned down a piece of 1" mild steel and threaded it for the ORB port.

Threaded the adapter into the ORB port so I could index the direction for the hydraulic tubing. Finished up the part on the mill and then tested it for clearance. I've got about an 1/8" to spare.

Next will be flaring the tube and tig welding it to the adapter. Stay tuned...

Yes it is,,thats something I could never do,, I know I have tried more than once,, and broke stuff more than once trying

What I see you work looks impeccable, but I have some concerns.

What size GPM motor are you using?
Are you planing on using the Tractor hydraulic pump to run it?
Are you planing a hydraulic cooler?
How are you controlling it (valves)?

Tractor hydraulic systems tend not to be up to the task of running any hydraulic driven system.
It is either a problem of flow or heat.
6.8 GPM that the tractor delivers will not run most motors of any size, and that would be max flow before taking into account for any additional filtering valving, cooling and line restrictions.
They also tend to overheat most tractors trying to run such an implement as they really have no cooling capacity, and can do some serious damage if run for any length of time.
