First off a quick thanks to Vic on the rebuild tutorial, everything came apart relatively easy and the nail trick for removing the lower bearing race work great (although it took some persuading!). Found out my problem was the steering shaft worm threads are all chewed up and the balls from one of the tubes on the ball nut were floating around in the box. I had to remove the little bracket ( held on by 2 Philips head screws) in order to get the shaft and gear out of the housing. Will that bracket be present on the new shaft assembly and if so, is it necessary to remove it before reassembling? Or is there a trick to making it fit? Also, I have inspected it closely and I cannot find a weep hole, any chance this was a design change on later L series?
