I do some fabrication for my self and others and feel like I'm buying gold when I go to buy tubing, plate, angle, and channel. My God I'm measuring things to an inch now and trying to find more efficient ways of using steel I have and even hunt thru the classifieds for used stuff. I've had to put off projects and when giving estimates long time customers look like I'm pointing a gun at them.

Yep, it's crazy and if it's like everything else, once it goes up you very seldom see it come back down. Here's a thread I started a while back.

Yes your thread was only three months ago. It's way worse now because I was buying steel then too, I've been buying steel for 40 yrs and have to wonder about the guys who say "yeeaa the prices will come back down" after our government is done screwing us with tariffs. That certainly hasn't been my experience.

yeah i actually buy "good" steel for my gun building vs just regular steel.

prices are really crazy.

having to price by the job now instead of just set prices for repetitive things.

Tariffs? What tariffs? In October, Trump told the Wall Street Journal there are no tariffs.

"Where do we have tariffs? We don’t have tariffs anywhere,” Trump said. “I read that today: ‘We’re worried about the tariffs.’ You know what happens? A business that’s doing badly always likes to blame Trump and the tariffs because it’s a good excuse for some incompetent guy that’s making $25 million a year.”

So quicherbitchen; pony up a few bucks out of your 25 mill paycheck and go buy some tarrif-free steel already!

(Hey, you guys elected him. We voted for the guy who said "the budget will balance itself")

Skeets your math is confusing me. GT equals 2240 pounds. Price is $100 for GT in your area you say. 100/2240 = .0446 per #

Skeets fuzzy math is like mine. No wonder I'm sitting on a pile of rusty scrap next to the shop...lol

Never did copper but I've done brass, tungsten carbide and stainless before.

Yep.

I made this last weekend for nieces reptile tanks ....

About $160.00 worth of 1.5x1.5 square tube.

Around here “surplus” steel is not much cheaper so I bought new stuff ...
