Received this from Coconino National Forest earlier this afternoon:

"We have a wildfire burning near Kinder Crossing, currently it is 100 plus acres and is moving north east. We have several air tankers dropping retardant at the head of the fire. There are several engines, and Blue Ridge Hotshots on the scene. Forest Road 95 has been closed and a Type I Management Team has been ordered. Fire Management Officers and the Blue Ridge Fire Department has issued a pre-evacuation notice for the communities of Starlight Pines Ranchettes and Clear Creek Pines 8&9, in addition to Ponderosa Pines."

My place in the high country (and my Kubota) is in Clear Creek Pines 8&9. Here's hoping they can stop it, but we are right in the fire path.

Last summer was a bad one for us. Every way we would go (Montana, Oregon, Southern Idaho And Canada) there would be another so no matter which way the wind would blow we were getting hit. You all will be in my family's prayers.

Thanks for your prayers & support folks.
Latest update:

"The fire as of 5 p.m. has grown to approximately 150 acres and has six engines, four type I handcrews, two dozers, two water tenders, three air tankers, five helicopters, an air attack aircraft and a lead aircraft battling the wildfire. A type I Incident Management Team has been ordered to work this wildfire incident and are expected to be in the area tomorrow. More than 100 firefighters are working on the ground and the air to stop the wildfire."

"There was no recorded lightening in the area and the fire is under investigation."

The fire is 2-3 miles from my place.

Bill,

Yikes. Maybe it will slow up with the light winds the last day or two and they'll get a handle on it. There is another fire burning in AZ that is burning about a foot or two high. Its almost as if they are letting it burn out what little vegetation is under it. Hope your place is among a few home with access as they tend to move in and protect those locations in anticipation of fire.

We have had several fires start under suspicious circumstances in AZ. Hope they get these under control.

Again, thanks for your prayers, kind words, and support.
Latest report says 230 acres, spreading slowly, but winds are predicted to increase steadily until Sunday, and winds are virtually always from the southwest in this area, pushing it right towards our place. My neighbor says smoke has been heavy, but not as bad as some local controlled burns in the past.

I'm torn between doing nothing and hoping for the best, and hot rodding up there to grab the Kubota & anything else I can carry. Feel pretty helpless right now. I've always been sympathetic when this happens to others, but it sure feels different when it's you.

As for arsonists, they better hope I don't ever witness that act.

Two of my neighbors went to a meeting with the fire officials this evening. Word is that the fire is holding at about 500 acres, laying down for the evening. Tomorrow will be critical, as they are expecting winds up to 45mph. If they can hold it under those conditions, they think they can stop it. If not, well I'd rather not think about that scenario.
