Looking at 4ft. units for my new tractor and trying to decide which is more useful and what capabilities each have. For my current home it will be mostly keeping wooded areas free from briars and vines. some very small saplings from time to time, but will be moving from here in a few years and will go to a larger piece of property. I know the rotary cutter will meet my needs here, but what can a finish mower handle other than grass

I don’t think I’d use a finishing mower on anything but grass and don’t think I’d run over saplings with one. Rotary cutters are designed for the work you want to do.

For wooded areas, use the rotary cutter.

Finish mower is a lawn mower.

I have both. For the field next door. I used the rotary cutter first. Then went through with the finish mower after to knock it down to where the tenant could mow it with there rider.
