Hello everyone.

The battery in my B6200D is about done for, so I’ll be replacing it soon.
I have no idea if what’s in there is the proper battery or not, it was in there when I got it.

Can anyone tell me what the right battery for this model is? CA/CCA rating, etc?
Pretty good chance I’ll pick up a new one at Napa, maybe Canadian Tire, if anyone knows a model specific to those locations.

TIA.

Ben

My philosophy on any replacement battery (for any application) is: The largest battery that will fit in the battery tray / box with the correct terminal placement.

I assume you three amigos mean largest CCA rated battery that will fit.

Good to consider, I may measure the battery area and see if there’s room for improvement.
When my battery was decent it was slow to warm the glow plugs up, even in warm weather, since I’ve had to jump it a few times now, in freezing weather, I noticed using a portable 150amp jumper they heat up really fast, like 10seconds and the indicator is really glowing.

Thanks again for the advice.

Have you checked cleaned, greased, and tightened all the connections on the battery, and ground on the frame side coming off the battery? Many times I've jumped batteries in my equipment and vehicles, only to find out after messing with connections, that i had a loose or bad/dirty connection in the system.
Sometimes it's a simple fix, like cleaning the ground connections and installing a star (electrical) washer.

I almost took a brand new battery back because it was doing the same thing as the battery that i replaced (which was 10yrs old). It just wouldn't hold a charge and would only start with the jump box on it. I started messing with the connections, and low and behold, the ground at the frame side, off the battery, was bad. Fixed that and it fired up instantly.

I agree about getting the biggest battery you can, to fit in the area you have to work with.

The 51 batteries are the biggest that fit in the B6200 and other older B tractors. The 51R is what is needed to connect to the factory battery cables. If longer cables have been installed the 51 will work. There is just not any room to enlarge the battery dimensions.

Probably won't find much CCA difference in that size battery.

As mentioned, clean connections (at all 4 ends) are required for the battery to do it's function.

I put a 34R battery in my old B8200, and it is slightly bigger than a 51R, in every dimension. It fit no problem. 775cca's, and the little .9L D950 turned over quick.

Does the B6200 battery mount under the seat, like the B8200?

Here is a BCI group size chart that may come in handy when shopping batteries...

I was thinking of the B7100 style, where the battery is under the hood directly in front of the firewall and beside fuel tank. Really squeezed in there.

Oh I see. Yeah that could really hamper choices.

CCA and physical size both. Your alternator don't care what size battery it's recharging but in marginal starting conditions like extreme cold, a bigger battery in CCA and size can make the difference between a good day and a bad one.

I just added a second battery to my wife's Suburban. Came with one and a vacant battery tray for a second one, so I got the appropriate lengths of cable (welding cable actually) attached crimp on copper lugs (soldered them as well) and put in a second battery. Measured the tray dimensions, and height for hood clearance and installed a second battery.

Don't know about newer Kubota's with their emissions compliant computer controlled engines but cars today have parasitic drain if not running, I'd assume the tractors do to. ECM's are always pulling juice to stay alive.

My older mechanical M's have no ECM to drain the battery but still require some serious amps to roll them over when cold so my philosophy is why chance it. Go as big as possible and with me that means an Interstate or a West Penn storage battery.

The B6200 battery is under the hood at the front, just behind the grill and under the air filter.

I believe there may be a bit more room to work with, but I’ll measure and see. When I do get a new one I’ll report back if I can fit anything larger.

I recently had the whole front end apart and cleaned and painted the battery tray and cleaned up the connections at that time, I have experienced poor connection issues around the battery terminals before, but will do them again once I get a new battery- the battery that’s in there right now is dated ‘08, so not exactly fresh.
