I have a L39 backhoe and MX5800 in need of an oil change. The manual for call for SAE 15W-40 in both tractors. I have enough Shell Rotella T4 Triple Protection Conventional 15W-40 Diesel Engine Oil for the L39 tractor and enough Shell Rotella T5 Synthetic Blend 15W-40 Diesel Engine Oil for the MX5800. Is there any reason I should not use the oil on hand? Thanks

I would use it in a heartbeat!
Why not? Both are fine oils - and I bet you will change them in the future according to a schedule.
As much as I believe in synthetic oils being "better" than conventional oils - the conventional oils today are so damn good the different between the two is hard to see when changed at typical intervals.

I have a Duramax with 450,000 miles on it. Never has "burned" the Rottella 15-40 I put in it. It does use a little in the 10,000 mile oil changes.

I know it is not an orange tractor but it is a diesel.
