A friend brought their 5100 out to our lake lot and it is dripping pretty constantly from a plug located about dead center of the tractor approximately 16in from the back of the oil pan. This plug has some sort of stem that you can push up and down. When pushed up the drip stops. What are we dealing with? Thanks

That sounds like a drain for the clutch housing.

There should not be any appreciable amount of fluid there unless it is leaking from the engine (oil or coolant).

The pin is there to keep the drain hole kind of clean.

Your tractor probably has a bad rear main seal assuming it is engine oil you are seeing.

If it is coolant you may have a bad plug in the block.

Either way it will probably require splitting the tractor to fix it.

If it's hydraulic fluid, then it most likely has a leak on the propeller shaft seal (the drive shaft for the front wheel drive goes through the bell housing).
It needs to be split to fix the leak.

I personally did not feel the fluid but looked at the leak. A couple other people said they were fairly confident that it was hydraulic fluid
