Got a bx24 and need to get a brush hog. I didn't want to buy new so I've been hunting Craig's List for a 4fter for a couple of years. I've found very few and almost as expensive as new. At least in the 4 ft size. Lots of 5 fters. Can I run a 5 ft brush hog on my bx24? I'm a home owner and use it to maintain my property (not commercial use). Am I gonna have to bite the bullet and just get a new 4 fter? My local farmers coop Wilco has them for about $700.

Check your manual and I think you will find it recommends a 42", I run a 48" on our BX2200 and BX2660, but would not want to put a 60" on it, I just think it would be too big.

I bought a Land Pride for ours, but they are pretty expensive.

I'll second TripleR, check the manual, or call your dealer to make sure.
I'm thinking you should run a 4' with no problem, 5' if things are not too thick, but might have to slow down ground speed some.

I looked for a couple years for used, wasted time and fuel going to auctions, etc just to find the used ones were mostly used up or priced like new.
Then I came across a new King Kutter flex hitch on sale and couldn't be happier. I paid about 1k for a 72" then.

I'm also using a 48" on my BX2360. Don't think I'd want to try a 5', mostly because of the extra weight. My vote is for a new 4'. Seems like used mowers are either beat up or, if in good condition, priced close to a new one....at least in my area.

That was my experience; I paid $700 for a used 4' mid-grade Land Pride. It's well made and should last a longtime, and a B7610 (24hp) handles it well.
