I haven't been here for around 6 months. I got busy with other things. Then on 10/7/14 my wife was killed in a wreck. I've been told by many that the teenager that hit my wife broadside was texting. Tell your kids to watch the road.

Brother,

I am very sorry to hear of your loss - I cannot begin to understand what it must be like:(, my thoughts are with you. And your message is clear - I have 3 boys - all drive, told them I would have their license if they texted and drove!

Texting will be the death of all of us... I passed a young girl driving at 30 mph in the fast lane on a major highway here in PHX. She was oblivious to anything around her except the phone in her hand.

So sorry to hear about your loss.

RDR, so sad to learn of your tragic loss. Hopefully you will be able to participate in the forum now and keep us informed of your purchases and projects. However, dealing with such losses makes demands that may not allow you to be around much. Be assured that if you aren't posting, you will nevertheless be in our thoughts and our hearts will be reaching out to you.

God be with ye!
-Shaun-

Hopefully someone will develop something that will disable texting and hand held calls while the car is running.

Sat at a bar one time with a couple older guys that worked for IBM. They pulled out this devise that looked like a little hand radio that would disrupt cell signals in a certain radius around it. They told me they can't stand watching people communicate with their thumbs like monkeys, glued to their phones. What ever happen to human interaction they said.... So they would see some guy in the corner of the bar talking with his thumbs, turn on that jammer and sit back and laugh. Once the signal is gone the fools walk around in a circle trying to figure out how they lost full service :p. It was funny as hell especially when they would turn it on an off!
Maybe parents should get one and hook up in their kids car. Rig it up so that it powers by the turn of the ignition. No calls, no texts coming in. They want to make a call, pull over and shut the car off. Sadly it's not just kids that are doing this!

Unfortunate and unnecessary loss. Im sorry this happened. Why is it people still insist on doing this even when they are aware of the risk?
Cell jammers are illegal,if i could i would have one for this very reason. Every day i drive i see someone doing it.

My deepest condolences for your loss. Your are living one of my greatest nightmares.
My daughter had a friend texting while driving. Pulled out of a gas station in front of a truck doing 60mph. Friend spent two years at children's hospital learning all of her motor skills again. Daughter is the biggest advocate for not texting while driving now

I am so sorry for your loss RDR. I can't imagine what life would be without my Bride. She knows just when to pull the throttle back or cut the fuel.

Thank you for sharing your loss and advise with us, maybe it might save someone else the loss you have experienced.

RDR, an expression of sympathy seems not enough at a time like this. It forces us to re-evaluate our life and purpose, to realize material things are temporary and shallow. Be blessed by those who come by your side and share with them to help overcome your grief, and in doing so help them become a better person because of your tragedy.

Unfortunately in a tiny way I can relate. I lost my fiance in 2000. similar circumstances.

Time heals... well more like it creates work arounds.

From a widower here. Lost my first wife 36 years back. Fond memories, but life goes on. A suggestion. Keep busy.

After a while check out the area's widows and widow's organizations. A great way to start living again with similar folks. These are sponsored by some churches, or you can find them on the WEB. I'd not expect to have the same friendship in a "singles" group. My experience was they are a bunch of gripers, having gone through divorces. You don't need that now.
