Hi, new to tractors and I am about to buy a L4701 and have been told by many to try to find an older model to avoid the problems with Tier IV.

I can buy a fairly new L4600 for a little less.

I know nothing about this issue, please give me any advice you can.

4701 owners, how are they doing?

Welcome to OTT. If you go to the Tractor Operating Subforum on this site, there is a "sticky"at the top of the list of threads. If you click on it and then go down toward the bottom there is a thread that has a lot of information on the new engines that you might find helpful. (All the other subforums have stickies of various sorts that are worth looking at too).

On OTT I don't think I have seen any recent problems with the dpf in the L4701. The 01 and tne 60 series L tractors seem to be working fine as far as the regeneration is concerned. Hopefully someone that has one will chime in. The B3350 has gotten the lion's share of bad press.

As far as taking an older model instead, there are lots of pros and cons that will depend on your specific situation. Having the warranty on a new tractor and a relationship with a dealer is one pro.
