Need some help with a pto problem. This afternoon I put the tiller on to do the garden. But when it engaged the ground and started to move the tractor forward it started to chatter and stalled the pto shaft. At first I thought that the slip clutch was slipping. So I went around and snugged the clutch bolts. Problem was still there. So upon further inspection I was able to discern that the pto shaft was actually stalling out when the chattering noise was occurring.

With the tractor shut down and pto engaged I can rotate the tiller in one direction but not the oter. so the over running clutch seems to work. I can't apply enough pressure to get it so slip by hand. Any Ideas from the good folks here would be greatly appreciated. It worked great the last time that it was used. I'm stumped.

Its hard to be sure but you may have to adjust (tighten) the PTO clutch cable. This is the cable from the yellow lever. I encountered a similar problem with my L3010 whilst operating the backhoe. I freaked, worried the innards were shot. The only thing I could try was tighten the cable, and that worked. It was a couple or more years ago with no repeat of problems.

The tiller rotates freely by hand. Suspect the cable could possibly be the problem.

Problem found/solved. It was a simple adjustment of the pto cable. It had too much slack. Adjusted it and tilled the garden with no problems.

Sweet! (but apparently, 'sweet' is too short a meassage so I'm writing this).
