Great. Looks like my box survived the 3,000 mile ride. You should not need a puller to get the axle gear off. Just remove the snap ring and it should come right off just

Yeah, it should, except that one of the loose ball bearings or, the other gears, put a few dents in the end of the shaft. Pulling the gear with a puller will reshape it though, and the new one will slide right on.

Thought I should mention that the groove for the snap ring is fine, despite how bad it looks. I pulled the snap ring before this picture.

Not needed. It's beat up, but serviceable.

I had to angle grind some slots in the old bevel gear to pull it off with the puller. Cleaned the splines with needle files.

Now to borrow a torque wrench and buy some gear oil. Finally I'll be able to mow again. The field is getting tall.
