Hi everyone! I am new hear but I have been running around reading all the post I can about any Kubota that is even close to mine in model, year and configuration. I even spent a few hours devouring Stumpy's L175 thread. I ordered a repair manual and I am at the point of diving in head first.
I have had my L175 tractor for close to 12 years. It has been fantastic up till now. In that time I have mowed, pulled and drilled with it and in all that time 1st and 5th have made a pretty substantial noise. It is not a grinding noise but it sounds a bit like one of the Three Stooges going "Nuck, Nuck, Nuck" but with a louder more mechanical sound.
I always chalked this up to undue wear on 1st & 5th because 5th, in high range, is where you usually mow.
Today I pulled the shredder and started playing with gearing and the PTO drive. The PTO, when engaged, feels like it has lost a tooth and I have managed to get 1st gear stuck a couple of time.
Question for anyone who has been into one of these gear boxes: Does first gear drive the PTO?
BTW - I plan to get and post pictures one I have the gear box apart.
