My 2016 L3901 calls for CJ-4 oil, 15-40. Is Shell Rotella T4 the equivalent?
It is my belief that ANY turbocharged engine should have synthetic run in it due to the possibility of coaking. (oil frying within the turbocharger bearings)

Rotella T6 5w40 is one of the best motor-oils you can buy. The "5" means your engine will start easier (thinner than dyno-oil when cold) and the "40" matches what your engine needs when hot.

I have been using the T5 (synthetic blend) 10W30 for a couple years now.

Maybe so with these newer emissions engines that run so hot. But we have run turboed farm tractors 10-15k hours with no engine work on regular oil. And these are tractors that run full throttle heavy load for days on end. And plenty of semi-trucks have been run over 1 million miles before overhaul on dino oil.

But I agree that the Rotella T6 is a great oil at a good price.

I run AMSOIL in all my equipment. Starts great in cold and maintains a good color far longer than any other diesel oil I've used. They also have a new oil for the Tier 4 diesels. I don't have any equipment new enough to require that, but from what I've read, they are top notch. Although the down side is a high price. However, they (amsoil) claim you can run 3xs as long on a single OCI. I would absolutely NOT do that with something still under warranty, and I still don't really like going much over the recommended OCI. To clarify, it's only my $0.02.

Do your research and decide for yourself. Please don't change your mind on my account. Also, I've never ran any of the Rotella oils, so I can't testify to its quality. I don't doubt, by any means, that it's a great oil. Choose what you feel most comfortable running and meets the OEM requirements, and you'll be happy.
