Bolt on hooks

I have an L4600F with the LA764 loader and LA2256 (66" SSQA) bucket. I need some chain hooks to lift stuff off trailers and possibly a clevis hook for general utility. Has anyone used these hooks? Did you attach them just outside the SSQA frame and dump cylinders or out on the far corners of the bucket? Or, has anyone welded them directly to the side of the bucket?

What works best? What do the RKI around here recommend? I want to do it right the first time and I'm considering the bolt ons with the square tube risers with welds to lock them in place. My friend has recommended a simple weld on solution to the outside edge of the bucket.

TIA,
Sid

Personally I like the bolt on, weld on is fine and secure - but bolt on have the availability to be taken off and modified easier if so desired.

Place the hooks in the middle and inline with the cylinders. If you use ONLY one on the outside, dont - use BOTH out sides as one unit.

5/16 is the most common hook - 3/8 will go in and stay and so will 1/4

If you need to use risers to get the hook above the lip - make sure the risers are strong enough to take the abuse that they will get !

kenny makes some nice hooks too! http://www.boltonhooks.com/

bxpanded makes nice ones too : http://bxpanded.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=6

Here is a picture of mine - I made my own.....

If you follow the manufactures instruction for bolt ons it's lifting capacity will be know.

If eagle $#|¥ corney welds those on the lifting capacity will vary!

If my journeyman welder son( as of last week) welds them on the lifting capacity will be know if the engineered procedure is followed.

just saying 7014 rods turned up till they burn through then turned back will not be adequate !

Second putting them in line with the cylinders, Or in the center of the bucket.
Do not put them on the sides or outside the cylinders, way to easy to bend the loader arms if you do that, even throws the center of lift off enough to possibly roll the tractor on it's side, not good odds. ;)

What about the 60" pin on bucket, Is the top lip strong enough for the hooks or do I need to brace the top to add hooks?

Generally, no the lip is not strong enough-or even wide enough for the hooks. For this reason we developed the hooks with the welded spacers so they would clear the top lip.

We did have one customer (Alan V) send us these pics show the custom brackets he made to support the lip and the regular bolt-on hooks. Darn cool!

Looking at my bucket, the SSQA attachment has a narrow strip on the bucket lip that doesn't appear to to fit the hook bracket.

I like the hooks on bucket, the former employers bucket had 3,two on very outside and one centre. Outside ones were dangerous with heavy loads when only one was used. My opinion was cut them off and get a bigger machine.
There was also a bracket with a trailer ball,on top of bucket and offset but between arms. Can grab almost any trailer on a block or jack.

Ordered hooks and clevis mounts for my bucket today from Kennyd. He's got a lot of great stuff. I'm sure they will be really handy.
