Hello all,

I have a 2013 L3940 with 60 hours. For the past several times I have cranked it the starter has to turn it over several times(5 or 6)for it to crank, unlike when it was new and started on the first turn. Once it had a little trouble picking up like it was out of fuel. It runs good and has good power in all conditions after it does crank. It is under warranty and I am planning to take it in for them to look at it. As a long time diesel engine owner and mechanic I just know the slow starting and engine sounding like it is not getting enough fuel is usually a sucking air or loosing prime condition but the tractor is too new for that sort of thing to be happening.

My reason for asking the question is that originally I had bought a slightly used L3540 with 200 hours that was having fuel pump problems. It would just go to bogging while in use and sometimes would completely quit and have to be restarted by the prime/vent procedure to get the fuel back to the injectors. I was told after they identified the injector pump as the problem that someone had loosened a fitting on top of the pump and had damaged the pump by moving the fitting and that was the reason it was giving trouble because of the critical settings involved that were altered when the fitting was moved. That did not sound right to me but maybe so with the newer fuel pumps. I traded it for the new L3940 at the time because of that and wanting a little larger machine anyway. Just wondering if there was any wide spread problems with the injector pumps that anyone was aware of.

Thanks,

Charles

Fuel is new and clean and I have a filter on the pump from the storage tank. I only had the first tractor for several days before the problem surfaced. That was when I traded it for the 3940.

No such thing as too new for something to not happen! ;)

Look for the air leak, or check that the air bleeder is loose or defective?

Someone was feeding you a line of poo! No such thing, they haven't changed a thing on the pumps for years, there is zero adjustments on the top of the injector pump!

Thanks for the response North Idaho Wolfman,

I thought the same thing when the sales man told me about the fitting being moved caused the problem. I have bled air from numerous systems by cracking the line at the pump or at the injector. Usually nothing but a compression fitting to loosen. Mine is under warranty and I am going to take it in to have a top and tilt system put on and while it is there I am going to talk to the service manager about it. I have only asked the salesman what was found on the 3540 after I traded it for the 3940 I have now. He may not have known what the problem was and was just saying something that sounded good to him. You are so right when you say No such thing as too new for something to not happen!

Thanks again,

Charles
