Hey guys, I want to wire a Glow plug switch with a on indicator light. on my B6000, I know the voltage to the glow plugs is 10v, would it make any differance if they get 12v, is it safe to heat them up at 12v? or are the specificly made for 10v, I always thought glow plugs were either 6v or 12v.

Thanks.

Jay.

Reason you are getting 10 volts is the load is dropping battery voltage. A lamp on the circuit shouldnt bother it at all. If i was wiring it, i would test the amperage draw and make sure switch can handle load, and use a relay/solenoid if necessary.

You don't use a light, you use a glow plug indicator (heated coil), it will take up the 2volts and send the other 10volts to the glow plugs. ;)

On my B6001 with D950 engine, there is no glow plug indicator. I suppose that gives 12 volts to the glow plugs. I do not think that it will damage the plugs. I let them glow for 10-15 seconds before engaging the starter.
I was also thinking of adding a indicator light to the circuit.

im thinking about a 20A toggle switch with a built in led that turns on when the switch is on.
With a toggle switch you have the risk of forgetting to turn off the glow plugs even with the led light on! (yes it can happen)
Either use a momentary switch with internal or external LED alternatively keep the key switch with its preheating position and combine that with a LED light.
