Lighting in my garage has been lacking for 25 years.

3 years ago, a couple of 65w CFL bulbs (300w equivalent) helped.

I use halogen work lights, trouble lights, etc. all the time.

Gets cold out there - stayed away from fluorescent shop lights.

Also didn't want a 4' or 8' bulb busted all over the floor. (I break stuff)

Got some 4' LED shop lights - 5' cord and pull chain.

Perfect for me - I might want to move them around.

I'm pretty happy with the result.

Not smart enough to take before/after from same spot, but I hope you get the idea......:D

Have about 8 sets of flo lights......

my newest shed I bought these .....

they were 49 bucks - or this is not the exact one.

I had a hard time paying 50 bucks for one, but then I did the math, a "decent" 4' fluorescent light is about 25 bucks, then you can get two bulbs for about 10-12 bucks. I said what the hell and bought one - super quiet and instant light and bright as hell light!
when I bust a 4' light bulb I hate paying a lot for them - this kind has a nice plastic bezel that I am not sure I can mess up!:D I BOUGHT ANOTHER ONE!

hell, even the bugs dont come around the LED light !!! COLD has no effect either!

RCW,

Yep, I swear by those LED lights. I changed out garages, lofts and any high lights on the gables to LED's. Like you say, they come on in the cold and give more light. I converted the garages with the Hyperikon brand and wired them in.

They work and they last.

A coat of paint went a long way for me. It's just killz primer but it helped. Got rid of the 4' lights for some high output 8' ones and it helped a lot. Haven't broke one yet but I'll likely do it now since I posted this.

I got on a kick after replacing all the recessed lights in the house with LED flood adapters - cool beans!

Work great over CFL floods. Flies and ladybugs can't get up into the recessed fixture anymore!:D:D

Pisser was I paid $35 for 2-pack at Lowes for those, and this week they have them on sale for $20 for 2-pack. GRRRR..

I am replacing all my F40 4' bulbs with swap-in LED replacements. Twice the light at half the electrical cost. Instant on too. Costco had FEIT two-packs for $36 a pack. And the tips rotate 90 degrees because the LEDs are directional.

After our remodel, we swapped out most of the house lights with LED. Amazing difference and you don't feel bad leaving a light on by accident.

We swapped out all the lights in our house and shop to LED, (shop has 13 150 watt equivalent LED's floods, seen a $25 loss on the electric bill over a month, paid for all the bulbs over 2 years and they are all still going.

I like the light better (can get the same light as sun so great for color matching paint and stain) and no heat is a bonus in the summer. ;)

Are those single, double or four bulb lights?

I have a 30 X 40 with 14' ceilings and it's dark with LED bulbs. I have been looking at T5 and T8 and researching the benefits. T5s appear to be twice the cost and use more power. I figure I could just buy more T8s?

They are double bulbs, so like 32 bulbs,, HOW EVER I am experiencing this week ballast failures. In the last 2 days I have lost 3 ballasts, and that do make a difference. and at 22 bucks a ballast I might have to look really hard at replacing them with the LEDs . But at 50 bucks per light, welllllllllllllll it might be hard to explain to the Boss why I need new lights:rolleyes:

I hate walking in the "Shop" on a cold morning and the #$$#!#$#@ lights a flickering and snapping and then the aint no light!!!!

Skeets, ifn you get a new LED light, gonna wish you had some more - they are $$$ at first, but they will come down too.

the lights that we all have placed on our ROPS, have come waaaaaay down, back two years ago they were 30 bucks each - now the are at $9.50 !!!! So I imagine that the strip "shop" light will follow soon!

Could someone provide a link to LED shop lights that you have or have seen. I have cold start fluorescent that have worked fine for 5 years but I don't care for the colour of the light.
Humblebub,

Look at this website http://hyperikon.com

Their bulbs are available at Amazon.

These are the bulbs we switched out our garages and shop lights with. Be sure to understand that you can get either just the replacement LED T-8's and install in a fixture, or you can wire them in. No worries about the ballast any more.

In one garage, I hard wired them in and the other had hanging fixtures, so I just replaced the fluorescent T-8'S with the LED'S.

The only question I asked myself to justify them is "Do I want to go out here when it's freezing, blowing and then the fluorescents either quit or just flicker." I was tired of that.
