Filled tire ?

I have a 30 year old L2250 that has "saltwater"filled rear tires. it has started to eat away at the area around the valve of one wheel. Is it advisable to flush and refill with some other liquid?

One of two things......

take it all out - replace with tubes - place NaCl back in it - no other ballast has more weight to gallon than salt water and it is cheap - BUT it eats away at metal - thus the tube is needed!

or get it all out, repair the hole and replace with ....
washer fluid...
rv antifreeze
beet juice (rim guard)
used antifreeze


your choice - any are great ideas....some are costly some are cheap!

I believe RimGuard (Beet Juice) is heavier, as I've been told that it weighs 10.7 lbs per gallon. Of course, not as cheap, but still not that bad as I've seen costs anywhere from $2.25 to $3.00 a gallon and you never have to worry about rust or contamination if it leaks.

it depends on the concentration of the salt in the water.

Beet juice gets up to 11 lbs per gallon.......

NaCl gets closer to 12 lbs..... however ------- it is bad for the rims (thus the tubes) and if leaked will kill plants around the are leaked.

Beet juice is sugar and will not harm anything if leaked.....little pricey - but tubes are not needed unless you want them.
