I bought this one on eBay (but there are a number of other vendors selling the same thing). However, it requires 4 relays (one for each direction). I wired all 4 DPST relays with the NC contact to ground, the NO contact to +12v and the C to one side of the motor (the opposite relay is wired to the other side of the motor).

So in the centre position, both leads of both motors are grounded. As the joystick is moved, one lead of one motor is connected to +12V and the motor turns. If the joystick is moved in the opposite direction, the other lead is then connected to 12V and the motor rotates in the opposite direction.

If someone can find a joystick switch with DP switch contacts, I would love to know about it, 'cause I couldn't find them anywhere.

Where did you get the 4 way joystick? Would definitely like to get one of those for mine.
Parts are from automationdirect.com

ECX3520 - Joystick
SA103SL - box for joystick
Box is just deep enough for joystick so have to run wire out side of box.

B060604 - Box for relays
782-2C-12D - Relay
782-2C-SKT - Socket for relay
