OK, I am putting a new starter on my B2920.
Both the old starter and the new one have a small 6" long wire attached to the LEFT terminal of the starter. It has a plastic female connector on the un-attached end. It's not connected to anything.
WHAT IS IT FOR?
IS IT SUPPOSED TO CONNECT TO A WIRE ON THE TRACTOR?

Is it from the post that the main lead from the battery connects to or one of the solenoid termiminals?
Does everything on the tractor work without this lead connected?

No, it should not be connected to anything on this model. It is a wire that supplies power while you are cranking the starter. It is used on some applications to power a fuel solenoid during cranking but not on your model.
