Was chipping 3 1/2" poplar branches yesterday when it started bouncing in and out of the teeth and then pto shaft stopped turning. No strange noises that I heard. No grinding. Cleaned chipper out and tried again but shaft barely turned. Checked mid pto via attached front mount snow blower - nothing.

750 hrs on my 2007 BX2350 and lots of pto work (mower, tiller, chipper, leaf collector with hardest use coming from the tiller and chipper). Drives fine, just no pto.

Me thinks the pto clutch is gone. Any experience with repair cost?
BTW - dealer near Calgary (Tractorland) is coming to pick up and repair.

Flat rate time is 7.3 hrs to rebuild PTO clutch. that is the time Kubota would pay dealer if it was warranty. Your dealer will likely take at least 10 hrs to complete the job plus parts I'd say $1500 to $2000 dollars

I replaced my PTO Clutch pack this past summer in my L4740. The reason for it's failure was the clutches, one of six welded together, causing the PTO to run all the time. The tractor has 179hrs at that time, after repairing it, I checked the PTO clutch pack pressure and found it to be low. Adjusted it to specs and all is good. The tear down and split the tractor trans from the rear differential was an 8hr job, Parts were $1300.00 Fluid was $300.00 reassembly was another 8-10hrs. It was my first time and it is a bigger tractor than yours but I'm sure your looking at $5000 + at a dealer for that repair.

Sorry to hear about the failure and expense to fix.

For reference this would be $2,671.42 US at today's exchange rates.

Hi 2007, I have a L3540hst and looked in my manual for PTO clutch Pressure and could not find any info on it. Is it in the manual on how to check it?
I see it has a regulator. How did you adjust yours? What is the spec. for the pressure. Thanks
Andy

Do you have a L3540 or L3540-3 model? The specs are in the WSM and they are different depending on tractor configuration. The pressure can be tested as I done so myself. Needed a longer rubber hose with 1/8" mnpt for connection to test port and a pressure gauge on the other end. Fluid needs to be at operating temperature. On a L40-3 model I've noticed the pressure varies with temperature and rpms. It is actually lower at low temps, which is opposite of what I expected to happen. Seeing the pressure map, I now make certain the tractor runs a while before using snowblower and make certain the RPM's are kept high.

It's also to necessary to point out that older -3 WSM's had the wrong pressure spec. Confirmed this with another forum member who had PTO clutch issues. The original WSM manual purchased with tractor carried over the old pressures and the more recent manual updates have the revised pressures.

FYI... The dash 3 (-3) model L40's have a rotary electronic switch to engage the PTO and this is what my comments above are referenced too. Therefore please ignore the above comments if your tractor uses the conventional lever to manually (linkage to pto) engage the PTO. The pressure is controlled differently.

Let me know what you have.

I do not have the -3 model, I have the straight L3540 with a lever & cable. Is yours a -3 model? What section of the manual do I find this procedure? My manual is copyright 2007. I bought the manual from messicks in 2014.
Thanks for your help.

Opps I see 200 replied and not Kubota 2007 Thanks for the info 200.
