I searched but didn't see anything on it. Most seem to be 5 ton. Has anyone had experience with them and if so do they split much ? Thanks

I've split a lot of wood over the years, a 22 ton was the smallest and there were times that it just wouldn't do the job. My thought is that the 5 ton might be handy to do splitting indoors where a gas engine can't be used.

I've never used a 5 ton/electric one, but like lynnmor, I've split a lot of wood (primary heat for 3 households). I have a 32 ton, my dad has a 30 ton, and we sometimes hit wood that will task them. I can't imagine a 5 ton being sufficient other than for the lightest needs.

Seems in Europe thy use a lot of lectric splitters, some are just motors hooked to a big gear box others are hydro over lectric with box wedges,, I have even seen some firewood processors that were I have to assume 480 3phase. Though I dont think there are any American or Canadian companies that make big ones

I have used a 5 ton electric splitter for years on white and red oak up to 16" in diameter. It takes WAY longer than with a real splitter, because you can't just throw it in and split through the middle. You have to attack the chunks like you're doing it with a maul by splitting off slabs around the outside and eventually splitting it through the middle. If you have the time, it's a great alternative to an expensive splitter.

I have a 5 ton for indoor use, to resplit wood for when I want some small pieces. 5 ton is JUST enough, a 10 ton would be my choice. The 5 ton is good for a 4 inch maple piece, but not much more.

I've used an electric for almost 10 years. It's CLEAN and QUIET ! Yes, slow compared to a gas powered beast but at 69 , I'm in no hurry. The 'trick' was to cut logs to 'stove' cord size (12") instead of 'firewood' (16")/ Sure It won't handle 'big ugly' logs but it wasn't MADE for them. All scrap 2by4, get cut into footlongs, then become kindling. The last 'real'(gas) splitter I used had an 6" cylinder and 4 way wedge. It never, ever complained.

A 5 or 7 ton is good for making fire pit wood. I've used a Hazard Freight one on Oak up to 10". It's not a fast process. So of you have trees to get rid of its not the right tool. If you want to make some firewood it could work.

I have a Boss 7 ton. It very good for firewood length logs < 1 ft in diameter. It'll do bigger stuff if you're careful. It's quiet and easily moved around. It works with my EGO power station or an outlet.

Supersplits pair well with electric motors since it relies on kinetics and not so much the motor to split. I have the 5.5 horse gas and its an amazing splitter.

I have had an electric Ramsplitter for about 8 years.220 volt 20 ton. Weld quality left something to be desired and I have rebuilt most of the metal parts over the years. But it has split a 6 cords a year for us with no fumes or loud noise.
