Would you feel comfortable pulling say a 7k or 10k dump trailer behind MX5400 (loaded wheels and FEL)? Lot of my farm i can simply not get to with the truck and want to shore up some roads, could it be done w/ tractor?

According to the owner's manual, the MX5400/MX6000 are rated for a maximum trailer weight of 9,480lb and a max drawbar load of 1,650lb.
I have two dump trailers and regularly pull the smaller one behind the MX . Here's the 10 ft, 7500lb trailer behind the MX that I sold earlier this year.

I have Ag 7-pin outlets on both tractors (and an adapter) but haven't looked into how the electric brakes on the trailers would function. If the brake output from the tractors is either on or off depending on the brake pedal position, that would lock up the trailer brakes. To be honest, I don't even know if there's a brake pedal output in the 7-pin outlet. I have Tekonsha brake controllers in my vehicles and could possibly add more to both tractors but I need to investigate further.

Check any vehicle forum: When it comes to pulling trailers, it's RARE to see someone asking about being able to STOP it with whatever vehicle they're asking about. The question that is almost always asked is about GOING.
There are plenty of wrecks to prove it's a real problem.

I pull an M101A2 regularly, with various vehicles. I pull larger trailers occasionally.

the ones I’ll pull with my tractor are the small 6x10 10k dump (only empty) and occasionally the 20’ aluminum gravity-tilt, (just to reposition it) from time to time.

Most of us on here are truly just trying to answer questions asked, based on personal experience. I don’t recall anyone advising not to tow a trailer with your tractor, or was critical in any way.

Its not arrogance. It is being thorough. It never hurts to remind others of safety points. We can never hear it enough in my opinion.
With safety it is much better to assume people don't know something. Maybe you are better than the rest of us, but to be honest we really don't care. Why not just go to another forum on the internet and leave us inferiors alone.

The discussions on this thread have gone off the rails. The OP’s question was seeking advice and it has turned into a pissing match. Yes the MX can pull a 9k trailer, but yes stopping can be an issue if you are dealing with any slope. Just like people who pull heavy trailers with 1/2 ton trucks. The truck will pull the trailer but it will also push the truck around in a dicey handling or braking situation. In the case of a tractor (or any tow vehicle) handling will be an issue when the trailer out weighs the tow vehicle. But of course tractors don’t travel fast, so the likelihood of handling issues is reduced compared to a truck. So, my advice is that the MX will tow that trailer weight, but be careful in situations where the trailer is pushing the tractor.

I don't know if the MX5400 has brake lights, but in any event I WOULD install a brake controller for that trailer. You can use the 'lever' on the controller to apply the trailer brakes ,so mount it in a 'good' spot, close but not in way of anything else. Spend the time and effort to get working trailer brakes.
It's unlikely the tractor HAS front wheel brakes so stopping a fully loaded trailer with just rear tractor brakes could be very challenging, especially 'off road' !!!!

Agree with lots of weight and no trailer brake controls its really easy to create an unsafe situation. Personally I dont hook my 14k dump to anything by the F250.
