driveshaft cover for shredder

How important is it to keep these driveshaft cover for shredders in good shape. All the connectors on 1 end are broke and the cover keeps sliding down some.

If you are mowing in tall stuff, the shields keep the driveshaft from wrapping up as long as the chains to stop the shield from spinning are hooked up.

It also keeps you or your clothing etc. from getting caught in the shaft.

Not important IMO. That being said you should never be off the tractor while the shredder (bush hog) is turning.
