Yes every different cylinder count has a letter designation. ;)

Hmmmm ... Kubota uses letters to designate a series of tractors... B series L series and M series and numbers somewhat correspond to HP.

Kubota uses letters and numbers to designate specific engines and the letter specifies the number of cylinders.

Hmmm was wondering if there are instances where Kubota designed one piston and connecting rod and used it in two or more engines ?

I know that John Deere sometimes did that for example JD 4020 which was a 6 cylinder tractor shared pistons with JD 3020 which was a 4 cylinder tractor. Also Henry Ford N series tractors were designed using pistons from v-8 engines.

.... makes sense to keep cost down when producing a series of engines.

.... got to go lunch break is over :)

And for whatever reason, albeit beeing a japanese company, they chose to use german language for the cylinder count, which determines the letter

No. of cyl./German/Letter
1 Eins E (is there a one cyl. Kubota Engine?)
2 Zwei Z
3 Drei D
4 Vier V

So what would the numbers after the engine letter code denote? For instance, the D722 is 3 cylinders but what does the 722 mean?

The first 2 digits (72) are appx. displacement of 720cc and the third digit (2) means Kubota super mini series. All spelled out in the link I posted in post #4

Yes. Absolutely they do.

For Example D1703 and V2203 use the same Pistons and Rods
V1505 uses the same pistons and rods as D1105

Oriental diesel engines have German origins. I am searching for a thread I participated in years back and so far have not found it .... but another person linked to this .... you will find very interesting!

One Cylinder Kubota is a OC series. OC60, OC95 etc. These are more similar to a Generator/lawn mower motor than anything else in the Kubota line up.

OC series are air cooled (naturally aspirated)
Also, Naturally Aspirated means NO Turbocharger or Forced Induction, completely unrelated to this conversation.

The OC series is NOT air cooled, it is Oil cooled. They all carry additional oil plumbing, have a larger oil capacity and a oil cooler.

The Water cooled version of this engine is the RK series. RK50, RK70 etc.
The Air Cooled version is a lower HP, higher emissions engine and it is the AC series.
