I'm really pondering a B2601 over my BX2360.

My BX2360 is 3+ years old, with FEL, 54"MMM, and 51" BX2750D snowblower with associated front hitch/mid-PTO. All straight and right. 180 hours on tractor - maybe 30 on loader, 50 on snowblower, and 70 on MMM.

Thinking same outfit, but in the "B" size......

Did any of you guys trade old tractor in on new?

Personally - I would not, if IN that situation. I would sell on Craigslist or somewhere else, the dealer will not give you what it is worth - however, I know lots of folks that do NOT want to deal with a the hassle of wheeling and dealing online and whatnot.

A friend of mine gave me a car to sell one time that the dealer was going to give him 2k, I sold it for 3.5 - hell he gave me $500!

If you NEED the money for the "new" tractor, that does change the situation, if HOWEVER you are going to finance the new one at 0%.....I would buy the new one at 0% and then sell the old one at your leisure - and either take the money back against the 0% or use it for more implements!:)

I did. A L2800 for 3540. I was in middle if 0% finance and it was easier to trade to them and have them adjust financing and bring me new one and take old one away....

I traded in a 3 year old BX2660 with FEL and a 6' deck, 250 hours for a B2601. My dealer gave me about 9500 trade in value, and lowered the price on the 2601 a few thousand also. In my area used 2660 are going for about 11 grand. When you add in the tax you'll have to pay on income tax for selling it yourself, and then the extra tax you will have to pay on the full price of a new tractor, it would have been a wash trying to sell it myself. And I saved myself the time and hassle of selling it myself for the small amount of extra money I may have gained. I had a friend who was interested in it, but he only wanted to give me 10 grand. And I don't want to take a chance on upsetting a friend if the tractor would have developed a problem. My payment went up by 1 dollar a month! My dealer said there is a good market for used 2360 and 2660, so he could afford to give me a good trade in. I loved the 2660, but I can do so much more with the new 2601. Great tractor.

My Dad just traded a 2014 Kubota L3901 for a new Kubota MX4800 we got just as much for the tractor trading it in if not more due to the fact in Nova Scotia we get credit for the tax on trade in value, so if you trade a vehicle in this case a tractor at $20k trade in value you get credit for 23K with the tax and only pay tax on the difference in price so for us we would have not got the same money to sell private. I don't know if this would be the case every time. I'm not sure if the same rules apply in your area. Good luck with your decision.

I went to my local dealer looking for an L series. Their used L's were a bit too pricy for me so he tried to sell me on an L2500 which is part of the big Kubota sale with rebates on attachments bought with the tractor. When I asked about trading my 2007 BX2350 w/238 hours, they offered me wholesale ($6500). I listed it on Craigslist and sold it last weekend for $9,000, same as I paid for it two years ago! You're better off trying to sell it yourself if you want to get the value out of it.

I took that $9,000 and for $17,850 found myself a nice 2010 L3700su w/300 hrs. Included were a box scraper, a Land Pride RCR1860 60" rotary cutter, a ratchet rake, and pallet forks.

Lovin' tearin' up my property with this beast!

Thanks, guys!!

I understand the Craigslist thing - my first experience was selling my Harley this spring in 48 hours.

My only issue is I don't like debt. Even at 0%, a trade value reduces the principle owed. My current tractor was financed for 60 months 40 months ago. Paid for in 25 months.

I traded my L5030HSTC, bought used from my dealer in on a new L5740HSTC and got what I had originally paid for the L5030. I

My dealer is always looking for good used tractors and sells them quick.

I was quoted 5-6500 trade for my machine. Salesman said that, while having a twin to my tractor on his lot for $12k, and mine has a MMM... Craigslist is hit or miss, but most people who want to pay cash for a machine start there. Anyone who would rather roll out 25k for a machine cash vs 0 percent interest is a little wonky in the head....

I bought my Kubota last summer and I had a 1985 JD 318 with a number of implements that I had bought together with the tractor 15 years before and some a bit later. I listed it all on CL with a package price and individual prices for each major item. I sold it all in two lots and about broke even for what I paid 15 years earlier for everything. Granted, at about $4K total, it was more in keeping with CL cash deals. One advantage of having the Kubota first was being able to use the FEL and boom pole to load implements.

I bought my L3200 in 2012 in an effort to go bigger before the full Tier 4 went into effect. I worked a cash price with the dealer of just under $16K. Then I said I wanted to sell my B7500. He said if I had taken care of it as well as I did the company truck I was driving (with almost 300,000 miles on it) he'd like to have a look. He checked it out and offered me $9K for the 2002 B7500 and counted it as a trade on the new tractor. That worked out to the B7500 costing $3K to use it for 10 years.

My plan had been to list the B7500 for around $11K and accept around $10K. Since the dealer counted it as a trade it saved me the 6% sales tax on $9K, there wasn't enough advantage in price to fiddle with the nut cases that were likely to show up if I listed it on Craigslist.
