I purchased a used L3240 in 2010. Prior to that I owned an L3400. The biggest difference between the two is that the L3240 has a more user friendly 3 pt. hitch along with more weight and ground clearance and a nicer work platform (floor board). The Grand L also has other bells and whistles. Test drive them both if you can. Good luck.

The only reason I'd chose the used L40 over the new L3800 here would be the lower price. Otherwise I'd rather have the new one. Not saying the L40 is bad, it's just I like the simple basic L3800 better! :)

Well. Back to looking again. I took to long to make my decision and called the fellow selling the L3240 again to find out a guy came earlier today to look at it and stole it for $14,000. O well, back to making a decision.

Sorry to hear that, but I'm not surprised, good used Kubotas don't last long even on the dealer's loots, mine was nine years old and gone in under a week.

Yeah it leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but I just wasnt sure exactly the route I wanted to go. O well.

I have found another 2010 L3240 with a 512 FEL which is smaller size then the last one I found used with only 75hrs on the machine. R4 tires but the guy wants $19,500 obo. I know the last one I found isnt a normal going price and was a great deal. But what is a fair offer for this gentlemans tractor? I looked on Tractorhouse but thos prices seem to be a very wide range.

I'd get the new L3800 before I'd pay 19K for that one.

I also would not want R-4 tires.

Bluegill - I was thinking the same thing. How bad if any do the AG tires chew up fields? And would the R1 be fine while grading gravel driveways.

Oh and the plot thickens. I guess the fellow that beat me out on buying that Used L3240. Took the tractor home and washed it to post for sale on CL a hour or so away for $17,900.

R-1 Ag tires don't chew up my fields at all. But if turning sharp in 4wd the fronts will chew a bit. I mow in 2wd so no problems. I take care of a mile long drive and several miles of logging roads, the Ags are fine on the gravel. I need the extra traction of Ags here when the ground is wet, mostly in the wood logging. R-4s' are useless in my conditions.

Looks like you have a tractor flipper there.

No way I would pay that much for a L3240, I can't really comment on the L vs GL, I prefer the GL and some prefer the L.

I wouldn't worry about the Ag tires, I have and like both.

Well gonna stop by the dealer again today and give the new tractors a once over again. I saw also a couple hours away Dubberly Tractors has L3800HST packaged deals with a rotary cutter, box blade and trailer for $22,800 with R1 tires.

Bluegill - You got me thinking twice on tires. Might end up with a New L3800HST with R1s. All depends on what the kind of prices I get back from local dealers. Might have to make a 2 hour trip south to take advantage of those "Package" deals.

R-4 tires are fine if you don't 'need' the extra traction Ag's offer. My brother-n-law prefers R'4s and has them on a L4600. I just need the extra traction here.

Ask you local dealer about a package deal. Mine didn't advertise one, but would match deals that a larger dealer father away was offering.

Well been on the phone most of the day calling around talking to Kubota dealers. Almost all are out of the L40 series with ROPs. Only a couple have cab models left. Was just wondering for price comparison new.

Long story short my local guy has the best price. A L3800HST With R4, FEL with QA 66inch Bucket and Cruise Control is $19,800 plus tax. I asked about the couple hour away package deals but he said he cant make a package that cheap due to them using Howse brand attachments and he only sells Woods and Land Pride. Even with that though his Tractor a FEL price is cheaper then the package dealer by $500. He said the price would drop about $500 if I went with R1 instead of the R4 tires. Still not sure on the whole tire situation. But I think Ive narrowed it down to the L3800HST. I would even consider the GST model if I was the only one In my family that would be using the machine but I think the HST would be the better choice since my Wife, Daughter or Father might be the ones operating the tractor. I even had one dealer offer a L4600 for $25600 since he had one coming in soon. But i think the L3800 is enough tractor for me. The L3540HSTC he had on the lot was a nice looking tractor too but not for $27,300. To rich for my blood.

Bluegill thanks for all the insight

UnionMan, that L3800 your local guy has is a very good deal!

Also the Woods and Land Pride attachments are the best and will serve you longer. So a little more $ upfront will pay off down the road.

I personally would rather buy local and it looks like you will be better off there too.

Unionman, Bluegill has it right about keeping your business local. You won't regret it the first time you have to have some work done on your tractor, or have to go buy parts. Two hours is long way to drive, not to mention expensive these days at the price of fuel. Local guys tend to treat you better than somebody a long ways away.

I am happy to hear you didnt come down to my neck of the woods and buy from Dubberly Tractor. I had a bad second experience with those idiots and they have lost my respect and business and got in a heap of trouble from a manufacture with a bullshit story they made up as to why they stopped selling a brand.

That have only been in the Kubota game for a short time period. They used to sell Kioti tractors and got away from them after a short time, also they started out as a used tractor dealer years ago.

Well I pulled the trigger today. Ended up with a L3800HST with the LA524 QA bucket, R4 tires with rears Filled, cruise control, and a Land Pride RCR1260 for $21,000. Should be delivered in the next couple days. I'm happy the best price ended up being the Local dealer who also seemed to be the most personable. Didn't realize it to after the deal was done but the salesman i was dealing with is also the owner.

I wasn't sure which way to go tire route but ended up with the R4's. If i went with a bigger tractor like the L4600 I might have gone with the R1's because of the bigger tire size. I guess only time will tell how I like the R4's.

Thanks to everyone on the board for their insight and help.

You should be fine with the R4's, I've had two tractors with them nd our renter runs them on his John Deere 4610 and likes them. He runs R1's on his field tractors.
