L2501. Coolant reservoir is just below low level. What is recommended to top off. Not looking for the scientific make up of what coolant is, just what people put in their kubota tractor

It most likely is regular ethelene glycol. Same that has been used for decades.

What color is the antifreeze in the engine? It's not so important what antifreeze you use but they aren't all interchangeable. For example you shouldn't add green antifreeze to a system that has orange antifreeze in it. If the antifreeze has been used for a long time you might go ahead and change it. Antifreeze has additives in it to prevent rust and they wear out. The tractor should use plain old ethelene glycol antifreeze commonly available for cars.

O'Reilly brand name ethylene glycol is colored green.

AutoZone has a green color ethylene glycol under its brand name.

Likely 50% ethylene glycol / 50% distilled water at whatever volume needed. Higher than 50/50 can degrade the heat transfer out of the engine and radiator. Lower and you are at higher risk for freeze up in winter or boil over in summer.
You can get pre-mixed at O'Reilly and Autozone if you don't want to mix it yourself.

Sorry to disillusion anyone, but the color of antifreeze does not always relate to it's properties. For instance, the company that manufactures Kubota anti-freeze describes it as being a clear liquid, with a dye added to make it appear green. What if they decided to make it appear blue? I would suggest relying on the specs and not the color.

My L2501 manual calls for ethylene glycol anti freeze. If you don't buy pre mixed (I don't) mis 50/50 with distilled water. Prestone it "the" name in antifreeze. Any other brand will work just as well. The big thing to look for is ethylene glycol or compatible with ethylene glycol.

Kubota specifies extended life ethylene glycol antifreeze for use in their engines.

That leaves out conventional green (IAT formulation) antifreeze. IAT is old technology and is relatively hard to find but still sold under house brand names like Autozone and Orielly.

Just about any brand of extended life (OAT/HOAT formulation) coolant would be acceptable. This is by far the most common type on the shelves today and can he found in many different colors including green.

The key is the antifreeze should have the words "ethylene glycol" and "extended life" or "long life" on the label. A gallon of Peak, Zerex or Prestone extended life concentrate will run you around $20. A gallon of "genuine Kubota" extended life concentrate is $30.
