Greetings from a new member,
I have a L4240 tractor with a LA854 loader. Its been trouble free since new (2007). Suddenly my lift is jerky and slow as is the three point hitch and the power steering (common pump). I could see some aeration on the dipstick (level OK) and when I pulled one of the loader quick connects, the oil had air bubbles. Dealer suggested one of the quick connects is allowing air to be sucked in on the draw side. Before I start throwing parts, I need a second opinion. No oil leaks found.

Check the rubber coupling hose going into the hydraulic pump, on the right rear of the engine along the bell housing. This is a suction line and are known for splitting. The hose gets brittle with time. It doesn't usually show as a leak, it just sucks air through the split. All your symptoms can be caused by this.

About 1 1/2 inches in diameter with band clamps? Sounds reasonable since I am getting an intermittent vacuum leak (ultrasound) from that area.

The quick disconnects are all on the pressure side of the system, no sucking air in there, ever.

The only way to suck air into the system is on the suction side of the system just like Sqidget suggested. ;)

Thank you,
Although mine is a lower s/n and part listed is TD170-33340, it appears that TD170-33343 has replaced it. It is listed for higher s/n models. Any thoughts on what the difference is?

bc
