I'm in the process of interviewing a person for a position.

1. Impressive resume been in the field for over 30 yrs know the industry inside and out and has contacts everywhere BUT has a pending criminal investigation .

2. Very successful but not in this industry impressive resume with a reputation of getting things done. BUT is very boisterous and a little over bearing at times .

If you could only choose between these 2 who would it be?

I am a retired criminal justice employee and the key phrase here is " pending criminal investigation." Talk to him about this and do your due diligence in checking with authorities to determine the nature of the crime, his culpability and if it will affect you or your business.

Only then can you make the best, most informed decision.

85Hoke, federal investigation is all I know. The other one mostly talking too much, not telling others what to do though.

TripleR, hiring someone with a pending situation seem like a waste of training cost and time if it doesn't work, besides the turmoil within!

Then why did you even need to post asking advice?

Well at the end of the day you have to look at it like this. It all comes down to "WHAT IF" somethings happens to you and you could no longer work and needed a person to take over!!!!! You need someone that knows and knows other people to keep things moving forward. Not someone who thinks they know about the business!! Somethings just can't be thought on the run!!!

I find people that are a little boosterous and ovebearing hard to work with.
I know less peope without a criminal record than with. How many can i trust?
I dont trust anybody, except for maybe 8 to 10 people close to me.
Hiring a complete stranger is a risk,no matter what the occupation.

Federal investigation could be a screw up on taxes to something serious. So an explanation of what the offense was, would mean the difference on whether they would still be in the running.

Most big business, and depending on the industry, employees have to pass stringent back ground checks. For example, last week I went through one to work on a piece of equipment at an armory.

Most salesman are loud and boisterous. And have a serious gift of gab

I am not impressed with her resume and she lied to me. She would get fired before the hiring process started.

Innocent until proven guilty, #1. 2 will get you in a world of hurt by being overbearing and unwilling to listen. It takes a village.

have you done background checks on the prospective employees.
does anyone have issues of being discharged for lying.
have they stolen furniture from federal buildings.
have anyone they associated with have unusual accidents.
have they any experience dealing with multiple businesses or the owners.
have they caused a corporate takeover of a multinational institution.
have they withdrawn workers from a project, that caused the project to become more complex and associated cost over-runs.
have they taken a business that was not doing well, and changed procedures to have a viable company afterwards.
have they dealt with government regulations and found the best method for you to save money.
have they wasted their employers money for frivolous vacations...
think about these things and mark of the ones you favor, then compare those qualities with your prospective employee.
has your prospective employee, been in a situation, where they used other peoples knowledge, to make a major decision.

Can either operate a tractor?
Can either plant a garden and put up stores?
Cut and stack firewood?
does either get dirt under there finger nails?

If the answer is no to any of the above I have nothing in common with either.

resumes go in trash and start over.

In 1965 I volunteered and joined the USN, I was discharged in 1971. I was a rural small town patriot. (still am). When I got out I was a little pissed. 55,000 youth dead (our side) and for what? I moved to rural Pend Oreille county to hide out and build a home for my family. We joined the Pend Oreille Tax Payers Association. We kept an eye on the county government. We had two successful recalls due to misappropriation of funds. The group consisted of Republicans, Democrats, Independents a few militia members and Christians, Atheists, Jews etc. After the reading of the minutes and discussion of the new agenda we would sit down to potluck and always eat pie. It was civil, fun and productive. As politics should be.

Today we cannot do this. You are a rightwing whacko or a liberal commie socialist b-tard. Total hate, nonfunctioning government. We as a nation have to get over this Hate! And start functioning. Sad but on November 9th and January 21 it all starts over again.

We need to sit down together and eat more homemade pie.
